Ed Harris and the data science team here at Harper Adams University have been exploring tech and advanced wireless network solutions in collaboration with Hartpury Digital Innovation Farm and Shropshire Council as part of the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region project. You can find out more about the River Severn Partnership and all of their projects here.

What have we been working on at Harper Adams University?
Back in July 2024, we began our work on the project which meant picking out a range of use cases to demonstrate the use of advanced wireless networks and technology in rural landscapes. We narrowed our use cases down to three key themes:
- Asset Management
- Rural Health
- Precision Farming
Within these themes, we covered monitoring of on farm biodiversity, improving and monitoring livestock welfare and predicting crop yields across seven different use cases. Most of these use cases are being evaluated on the University’s Future Farm (Or as we like to affectionately call it during this project – The Harper Adams Digital Innovation Farm) which means we not only have easy access to the technology to assess it moving forward, but also allows the data science team contribute further to the goals and targets of the Future Farm.
But what are the seven use cases you’re evaluating?
Hold your horses! We will get there all in good time. In fact, over the next few weeks we plan to spotlight each of our seven use cases in more detail and talk about the motivation, technology, networks and hopes for each use case. Watch this space!
